Dear
Friends,
In the middle of winter, we would like to encourage you to think
about the balmy days of Spring
and
the return of Oxford May Music to the Holywell Music Room for its fourth
season. We have another exciting programme for you,
with
the Festival's trademark mix of lectures from leading names in science and the
arts together with
some
of the most exciting musicians in the classical scene today. There are several
innovations this year including a Children's Day,
with
a lecture specially tailored to appeal to children and an afternoon concert
designed for children. To celebrate the Royal Wedding
and
the extra Bank Holiday (one of three within seven days including the festival)
we have our first afternoon concert. For
the
first time we juxtapose words and music, with BBC presenter Professor Brian Cox
telling us about time
just
before Messiaen's masterpiece "Quartet for the end of Time". The
other musical highlights are too numerous
to
mention, so we attach a full copy of the programme.
Once
again we have been able to hold ticket prices at the 2008 level, which
means that we are particularly dependent
on
supporters like you to ensure that the Festival can continue. If you have
not already done so, please consider becoming a Friend of the
Festival,
which has a number of benefits in addition to helping to safeguard the
Festival. Information on
how
to do this is available on our web
site . A pdf of the flyer, which will shortly be available in
strategic locations in Oxford and its environs,
is
attached. The detailed programme and more information are available on
http://www.oxfordmaymusic.co.uk/ Tickets
are already on sale through Tickets Oxford at the Oxford Playhouse.
Again,
details of prices and season and half-season ticket offers are available on the
web or by calling Tickets Oxford
on
01865 305305. We are very grateful to the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust, who
once again are enabling us to
provide
free tickets to all events for young people - this year there is no requirement
that they be in full-time education
and
the eligible age range for the free tickets has been extended to 8 - 25 years
old.
If
you have questions or need further information, please email us. We look
forward to seeing you at the Festival!
Best
wishes,
Jack
and Brian
