The 19th annual international convention of the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance) is coming to Memphis, Tennessee. With over 2,000 attendees, the conference offers a complete view of the business world of traditional and contemporary folk music and dance through 150 showcases drawn from every possible genre of folk, as well as films, workshops, and a networking-rich tradeshow. The business conference will be held at the Memphis Convention Center and Memphis Marriott Downtown February 22-25, 2007.
During the conference, registrants attend panels that provide useful insight for achieving success in the field of folk music and dance. Artists will perform for promoters, booking agents, and record label representatives, mingle with radio and print media, music publishers and others who make the business of folk happen.
Showcase applications, early conference registration and hotel reservations begin June 1, 2006. Go to MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "ent.groundspring.org" claiming to be www.folk.org to register or call 901/522-1170.

Co-founder Gene Shay Returns to Philly for 45th Annual Fest, This Weekend!

"There were about five or six of us who got the festival started in the early '60s. We were all members of the Philadelphia Folksong Society, and we were looking for a new way to bring folk music to a larger audience and a way to raise funds so we could do even more to promote and popularize folk songs, ballads, and the like." says festival co-founder and radio personality Gene Shay
Forty-four festivals later, Shay returns to host this most venerable folk event. Eternal thanks to Gene for all his great work!
This year's performers include Jackson Browne and David Lindley, Hot Tuna, Rodney Crowell, Amos Lee, Terri Hendrix, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, James Hunter, Raul Malo, Jimmy LaFave, The Roches, The Duhks, Arrogant Worms, Antje Duvekot, The Avett Brothers, and the Guy Mendilow Band. At the Old Pool Farm near Schwenksville, Friday through Sunday. MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "ent.groundspring.org" claiming to be www.folkfest.org.
