Organise an event for World Community Arts Day

dates: Saturday 17 February

The organisers of World Community Arts Day, on 17 Feb 2007, are asking individuals, organisations and groups of people to organise an event in their own community to mark the day.  The event could just be a gesture, ongoing event/workshop/artwork or a larger event. The only criteria is that the Art 'must be a catalyst for social change and caring'.

For more information and ideas on what you could be doing visit www.communiversity.org.uk/worldcommunityartsday.htm

Sparks: The Clore Jewish Development Fund

deadline - Round 1 -Wednesday 25 April

Sparks: The Clore Jewish Development Fund is a new national initiative to support Jewish communities outside of London. They are looking for innovative Jewish culture, education and community development projects across the UK (excluding London, which already benefits).

If you have a great idea for a project that will enhance the Jewish life of your local community, they could be backing it with up to £20,000. Sparks: The Clore Jewish Development Fund will be worth a total of £100,000 annually from 2007 and there will be one round of funding each year.

They would like you to come to them with clearly thought-through ideas for projects. If you are looking for inspiration, you can visit their website to see this season’s initiatives. You may already be inspired with a new idea, want to start up something new in your community or simply want to create the kind of events you’d like to attend in your home town.

Creative Volunteers Needed for Overseas Projects

Volunteers worldwide with creative skills can apply for a range of projects in
South and Central America so you can travel with purpose and your paintbrush!

Are you a creative, an artist with an urge to travel or a disillusioned teacher?
Need to get past a writing block or motivation dip? Need artistic inspiration?
Can't find that great next job or are you sick of 9-5 and don't know how to escape?

If you can act, play guitar, juggle, sing, tell stories, dance, paint, build,
teach circus skills, sculpture, design, puppetry or even if you are a photographer,
jewellery or film maker, keen gardener or DIYer we need you!

Why not devise a play in a Bolivian orphanage, teach photography to street kids in
Honduras, singing to teen mums in Nicaragua, share some moves in a Brazilian
social circus, redecorate a children's home in Guatemala or film a documentary
telling the stories of Peruvian orphans.

We give 100% of profits back to the projects for orphans, abused, abandoned,
street and at risk children in the seven countries we work in to build music and
arts centres and are looking for volunteers from as little as two to twelve weeks
and beyond depending on the project and how long you've got!

And while on your volunteer experience we encourage you to strive for an element
of public performance, exhibition, installation, recording or publication of work
produced during the project as we believe although process is important striving
towards a final goal or 'product', whether that be performance, photo exhibition,
CD recording or published calendar, provides a tangible goal and WIN/WIN situation
for everyone involved.

As 'creatives' a volunteer experience will provide you with new inspiration from
abroad. Being part of a community, learning their culture, their music and their
cultural history can provide budding filmmakers, artists, theatre makers, and
documentary makers with new stories on which to draw.

Your education and outreach experience while abroad will develop your skills and
ambition providing you with interesting and practical experience to advance your
own career in the UK.

Our 'list' of creative opportunities is not exhaustive and we embody a cohesive
vision with our volunteers to match them with the most appropriate and beneficial
project for both parties creating a passionate and creative network of UK teachers,
artists and young leaders pitching their vision and skills to creatively change
lives around the world while creatively changing their own.

We are having an Open Day and Photo Exhibition Saturday 20th January from 10am -
4pm at Putnry Arts Theatre, Ravenna Road Putney, SW15 6AW so you can come and have
all your questions answered and be inspired by our photos and stories.
