Subject: Godalming Barn Dances –
This could be the last time
..
After being involved with the Godalming Borough Hall
dances for most of the time since their inception in 1976 Lawrence and Linda
are looking to give them up.*
The main reason is declining numbers. Although we have had two sell-outs
this season we have also had several poor attendance including the lowest
ever. This is very
disheartening.
Because of problems booking the Borough Hall in March
and April there is a possibility that our dance on Saturday 9th February will
be the last.
The band will be “The Watchâ€ð featuring ex-Bismarcks
keyboard player Gareth Kiddier, Dartmoor Pixie Band banjo player Rob Murch and
ex-Flowers & Frolics/Gas Mark 5 etc. squeezebox man Dan Quinn. Calling the dances will be the very
popular Pete Rees – back for the fifth time in two years.
Tickets are £9.00 in advance (£8.00 members) and can
be purchased from Record Corner, Godalming, online at
http://www.gbhceilidhs.org.uk or by
post (details on the website).
Hope to see you there.
* We
have tentatively booked the hall for a four-dance season from November 2008 to
February 2009 in the hope that we might form a committee to take over the
running of the ceilidhs. All
volunteers gratefully received.
