What’s New…
Food… One of the frustrating things I find when I head off to a music event is that the venue doesn’t offer any food before the show. So I’ve had a word with Anna who runs Anna miller food about the possibility of offering a pre show dinner service. Anna runs the Riverside Café at the Maltings and is responsible for all the catering in the building and the food is excellent. To make it worth Anna’s while she will need to seat at least 20 people in the Riverside Café form 6.30 to 7.30pm. Please email me if you are interested in the idea and if I get enough interest then I’ll contact Anna and get a menu made up (Maltings Café prices). I will then email it out to the interested parties and set up a booking system (please note – you will need to have purchased a concert ticket before a booking can be placed).
On-line ticket ordering… You can now order your tickets on-line by credit card or switch for any of my Cellar Bar shows at any time of the day or night via the http://www.folking.com/maltings/ website (or go to www.folking.com and click on the folking.com live link in the yellow menu on the left)
End of an Era… I wanted to write a few words about this as over the years I have got to know many of you and wanted to explain the current dilemma I find myself in with regard to the Cellar Bar shows. My last 3 folking.com Cellar Bar concerts all lost money (which I had to fund myself). The main issue is that the Cellar Bar is a function room that holds 200 people (bar area and concert area) and the hire costs reflects that space, add the cost of PA hire, PRS charge, paying a sound engineer, the artists guarantee and you need about 60 to 70 people each show to break even. With the best will in the world I’m not hitting anywhere near that mark so I have decided that April will be my last Cellar Bar show for the time being. I still plan to do the odd big concert in the Great Hall and may be looking for another smaller venue in Farnham like, for example, a pub with a function room that suits the level of audience. It’s all food for thought…The main thing is that I still get a big buzz out of bringing live music to you in Farnham and it’s something that I definitely want to continue doing. I just need to tailor the venue to the audience size form now on. Anyway enough of my rambling… Let’s get on and tell you about our Cellar Bar programme for February, March and April 2008…
Wednesday 20th February 2008 – Cellar Bar - KEITH JAMES and RICK FOOT - LORCA - A Concert of Federico Garcia Lorca's Poetry set to music - PLUS THE FILM “A Death in Granada ” an informative bio-documentary about the life and death of Garcia Lorca.
The Poems will be mostly sung in English with some verses in Spanish. To add to the ambience the evening will also include courageous material by those who followed Lorca, namely, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Tim Buckley and of course Nick Drake....
Wednesday 19th March 2008 - BILLY MITCHELL in concert – Cellar Bar

Newcastle’s favourite son makes a welcome return to the Farnham Maltings to share his warm humour and extensive back catalogue of songs with us. Expect gems from his solo career, the
Lindisfarne
back catalogue and personal favourite songs and tunes...

Wednesday 16th April 2008 - UISCEDWR in concert – Cellar Bar

A long overdue rescheduled concert featuring the wonderful Uiscedwr in Concert. Many of you may remember Dave Swarbrick’s Lazarus stepping in to replace the original scheduled show in December 2006. Anna is now back to full health and the band are raring to play the Maltings. Uiscedwr is known as one of
Britain's most exciting contemporary folk bands. Featuring fiddle, guitar, vocals and the most expertly played percussion you're ever likely to hear, Uiscedwr offer a fresh and original approach to folk, bringing an energy and virtuosity to their performances that gets people screaming for more. With a sting of major festivals under their belt like Cropredy, Cambridge and Celtic Connections in Glasgow, Uiscedwr are fast becoming one of the most exciting and popular folk acts on the UK scene today.
Full details of all these shows which links to artists websites, video and further band details can be found at http://www.folking.com/maltings/
All concerts start _at_ 8.00pm with doors open (with bar) for 7.30pm.
Tickets for all concerts are priced _at_ £10.00 (£9.00 concessions). The Box office number is 01252 745444. Alternatively tickets can be ordered on-line via my secure Pay Pal account at http://www.folking.com/maltings/
Would love to hear from you if you have any questions or comments about any aspect of this newsletter.
