Description:
A Freelance Project Co-ordinator is sought to provide administrative and organisational support for this exciting and unusual interdisciplinary project - bringing to light the story of social philanthropist, suffragette and radical arts practitioner, Mary Neal CBE (1860-1944). A great spirit behind the folk revival of the early 20th century, her pioneering work with young dancers cut across a remarkable spectrum of British political and cultural life, and offers an inspiring model of some of the earliest known participatory arts practice. The discovery of her personal archive provides the opportunity to bring together contemporary artists, English folk practitioners, children, historians and archivists, within an intra-cultural frame, to explore indigenous English song and dance traditions today.
The work is well-suited to someone experienced in project management looking to extend their knowledge of traditional forms, contemporary practice, heritage and learning. You will work closely with Lucy Neal, the Project Director, and former director of the London International Festival of Theatre, to co-ordinate the Project working alongside an eclectic and experienced range of professionals in the performing arts, primary education, national libraries and research environments to connect the Mary Neal story to a continuum of participatory arts practice today. Knowledge of website design an advantage. A CRB check is necessary for this post.
