1) ACE have confidence in FAE
After the comprehensive spending review started by Gordon Brown and finished off in the Autumn of 2007, FolkArts England have been waiting patiently for an Arts Council decision on future funding. We can now confidently tell you that our work seems to be in the right direction and thank Arts Council England for their confidence in us. Funding has been guaranteed for the period 2008 to 2011 with consideration given to an annual inflation increase. This gives us the opportunity to continue our work and further develop information services, Conferences, training, News bulletins and lobbying on your behalf. We will continue in this same vein and will soon employ a new member of staff to assist us with our membership drive and be here to help you and answer your questions, support your work and promote folk for the next three years at least (see the job advert below). We look forward to working with you.

Well, heres a chanceto do that on a grand scale, on drums from very different traditions. Ivedeliberately chosen these styles because of their unique approaches, and toillustrate the role of drumming in different cultures - to communicateacross distance, to tell stories, to carry culture across borders, or to besymbolic of struggle from oppression - plus I want to avoid the usual Djembe/ Afro-Cuban / Samba styles which I think are well covered elsewhere.----------------------------------------------------------------------
