DARTFORD FOLK CLUB WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
We're delighted to report that Dartford F.C. has been
named Folk Club of
the Year for 2008 at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
This is a huge honour
for the Club, particularly as the award is decided by the
votes of the
folk artistes themselves. Pam and Alan collected the
award at the
ceremony in London last night (Monday), but had been sworn
to secrecy
until after the event. The highlights of that
ceremony will be
broadcast in an extended Mike Harding show this Wednesday
evening (6th)
from 7.00 to 8.30, so be sure to listen in.
We're certain that all will want to join us in
congratulating Pam and
Alan on this fantastic achievement. It is surely no
less than they
deserve for what they have given to folk music, to its
performers and to
its fans over the past 35 years or so. During this
time they and their
club have had a big impact on many people's lives, almost
invariably for
the better!
It is also rather fitting that this award echoes the
success of Dartford
Working Men's Club, which has been the CAMRA National Club
of the Year
for the past two years. This is something in which
Dartford F.C. and
its audiences have played no small part - our love of real
ale has
encouraged them to offer such a remarkable choice.
This means that the
next time you come along you will be attending the Folk
Club of the Year
at the Social Club of the Year. Why not make it
tonight and help us
celebrate!
Dartford Folk Club regularly feature high-class bluegrass and
old-time music, most recently Rattle-on-the-Stovepipe. Coming up:
