Subject: news from the world below
Felicitations to all of you in the world above,.... since we last spoke much iced coffee has passed the lips these warm late summer days...baby grandaughter CIARA ORLA RUANE arrived safe and sound, on time and with a fine pair of lungs on her....already a late night party girl ....she is keeping her parents well on their toes.....having done all we could in the helping out department ....Sue and myself headed off to the delights of Golden Bay for a little walking and to explore the giant sand dunes of Farewell Spit......and to concentrate of course on some photography of Quiet Places.....a project that has occupied much of the past couple of months for myself. The weather here has been amazing.....hot sunny days follow more hot sunny days....now into Autumn so they say but .....to us from the far north its still pure summer. Our St Paddys night gig went well .....Aunty Pat and Uncle Malachi seemed to connect with the southern audiences.....and have made a bit of a name for themselves in these parts....we were unsure what reception they might get and did have Sue outside with the engine running....but not needed in the end.....anyway it seems they also have a booking next week for a night of stand up in a local theatre ( that will be difficult for Uncle Malachi I hear you say..a man who hasnt risen to the occassion for years...well according to Aunty Pat) ....people here were impressed with his latest political role as security advisor to Hillary Clinton.......well he was with the CIA for a while ......but they had to let him go due to lack of evidence!!. In between times we have walked the Southern Beech Forests as much as painful knee and hip allow.......when I tire and ask " do ya think we are nearly there" I notice herself using the same distraction ploys that she used to use on the kids....like ..." OH look, there's a pretty flower"....not going to work on this Cookie I'm afraid......I know when I am being worked on....I think anyway........The forests here are a pure delight and 3000 photos of tree ferns later I think we have seen every one. The arrival of Baby Ciara coincided with the passing on of our friend Chris, back at home in East Kent....it brought the road that we are all on into sharp focus......those of you who knew Chris will know what an amazing example she was to us all, especially over the past year.... in the way she carried her load.....her Gift.... she called the big C.... as it gave " living each day" that special meaning. We marked her journey at this end of the world by spending time at the waters edge and watching some wild flowers drift off on the tide.....Arms Around The World.....then found a dance session in a local hall....so we went and danced for her for about an hour and a half....and found it to be the most wonderful way to express our thoughs and celebrate Chris's journey......MAY THE ROAD RISE UP BEFORE YOU AND THE WIND BE AT YOUR BACK.
Of course, heading back is also in our thoughts now more day by day......The swallows here are starting to head north....and for us Springtime in the UK calls......herself is itching to get those fingers in the soil again in the garden......and seeing again all our friends and family has a pull greater than any seasonal tug. Creative projects, gigs , folk festivals etc all to look forward to .....and perhaps some new directions too....as time down here has allowed us to look at projects we may like to have a go at......anyway till we catch up again down the road.....all our love to you all....Adrian and Sue xx _________________________________________________________________
