CEÒLRAIDH GHÀIDHLIG GHLASCHU

Slighe an Airgid - The Silver Way

Catalogue SKYECD48 | Barcode 5032475004820

Kenneth Thomson joined the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association in 1968 as a member of
the bass section. 40 years later he is celebrating his long-term membership of the choir,
and another significant milestone as the choirs conductor for the past 25 years.

Kenneth is a Mòd Gold Medallist and a very talented musician. All the songs on this album
have been arranged by him during his successful years at the helm, in which time the choir
has won the coveted top prize - the Lovat and Tullibardine Shield - at the National Mòd on
4 occasions.  Although he says he has little chance of beating the record of one his
predecessors - J Norman McConochie - who spent 47 years as conductor of the GG, Kenneth
shows no sign of slowing down, and is one of the most popular figures on the Gaelic music
scene.  Heres to the next 25!

After several years conducting the choir Kenneth started arranging songs for choral singing
and on this album there are 18 of the sixty or so he has arranged to date.

PATRICK MOLARD

Dùsgadh fir na bainnse - The waking of the bridegroom

Catalogue SKYECD47 | Barcode 5032475004721

Dùsgadh fir na bainnse (The waking of the bridegroom) is entirely devoted to Ceòl Mòr, the ancient
and often described classical piping form.

Patrick Molard was born in 1951 in Saint-Malo in North Brittany and started playing the pipes at the
age of 14 in his local bagad or Breton pipe band.  Two years later, he joined the An Ere Pipe Band from
Rennes under the direction of Jakez Pincet, his first Pìobaireachd instructor.  He introduced Patrick to
Bob Brown, one of the Queens pipers at Balmoral Castle. Later, in 1971, Patrick was sent to Aberdeen
as a French assistant and studied the art of Ceòl Mòr both with Bob Brown and Bob Nicol, himself
piper to the Queen.  He learned, from the Bobs of Balmoral, about a hundred tunes.

In 1972, Patrick returned to Brittany and was involved in the revival of Breton music and culture,
initiated by the celebrated Alan Stivell. Later he became a professional musician, touring all over
Europe with different groups and also started playing the uilleann-pipes. At the same time, he
conducted a lot of research in his own country, collecting material from singers and players of the
biniou and bombarde (traditional instruments used in Breton piping) and as a result accumulated a
vast knowledge of the different facets of Celtic music which enabled him to win the coveted
international MacAllan trophy in Lorient three times in succession.

He is a permanent teacher at the Music School of Carhaix (Finistère) and leads numerous seminars
and workshops both in Brittany and abroad, notably Galicia and Asturias in North Spain.
