CONCERTINAS ANONYMOUS
LEWES ARMS CLUB-ROOM, MONDAY 7TH APRIL, 8.00 - 11.00 PM
This is Bryan Creer's regular free session for concertina players of all systems and abilities. It returns to the first Monday of the month following the Lewes Arms pantomime (which raised £2,000 this year for the Sasha Roberts Scholarship Fund). What happens depends largely on who turns up, but there's usually some part-playing at some stage and a few session tunes get severely beaten up.

LEWES FAVOURITES ENGLISH TUNES PRACTICE SESSION, LEWES ARMS CLUB-ROOM, WEDNESDAY 16TH. APRIL, 8.00 - 11.00 PM
This is the monthly free practice for anyone wanting to practice tunes popular in local English sessions on any instrument. Andy Warburton has compiled two unbound supplements, one of a further 33 trendy tunes and another with a small selection of Scan Tester’s material; both are available to people coming to the practice sessions for the not unreasonable sum of £30p, but limited to one copy per person. They can also be downloaded from the Lewes Arms Folk Club website.
MARTIN CARTHY: WORKSHOP ON GUITAR & SONG, LEWES ARMS, SATURDAY 19TH. APRIL
The workshop is sold out but we are keeping a waiting list. A few advance tickets for Martin’s evening performance at the Lewes Arms are still available through the website or from me at £8 each.
HARVEYS BEER RESTORATION DAY AT THE LEWES ARMS, SATURDAY 26TH. APRIL
This is the first anniversary of the restoration of Harveys beers to the Lewes Arms following an epic struggle with Greene King which attracted international media coverage, has already been the subject of two academic theses, and will no doubt become a Hollywood blockbuster with Arnold Schwarzenegger as Miles Jenner and Johnny Depp as Crink. The Lewes Arms Folk Club will be celebrating with an evening of music on the subject of beer; let me know in advance what songs or tunes you'd like to do so that I can put a programme together and avoid duplication.
In the late afternoon there will be a relay race in which two teams, Team Bitter and Team Old, pass a pint from hand to hand from the brewery in Cliffe High Street to the Lewes Arms. There will probably be a bit of music at the start and finish, and quite possibly as the pints progress up the hill as well.
ENCIERRO DOS ANIMALES PANTAMIMOS,  LEWES ARMS, EASTER SUNDAY
This has made the front page of today's Sussex Express. A full pictorial record can be found on Roz South's website http://rozsouth.zenfolio.com/p589263004/. Steady yourself before looking too closely at the hippo. Penny Allen suggests inviting some Morris beasts next year.
Tootle pip,
Valmai
