Bacalao

Saturday 1 March 7.45pm

Gulbenkian Theatre, Canterbury

The UK’s finest salsa big band presents a night of hot Latin music, reminiscent of the great Cuban dance bands of the 40s and 50s. Bringing everything from rumba to cha-cha-cha and salsa to mambo to the Gulbenkian Theatre, the 12 strong Bacalao know how to get the party started.

Playing classic son, cumbia and bomba, with full brass section, Bacalao are acknowledged as the UK’s premier salsa big band. Lead vocalists Diego Monslave and Rafael Barrio both hail from Colombia and many of Bacalao’s members have spent time in Cuba, the birthplace of salsa, to study and play with the best musicians there. Bacalao’s line-up draws from some of the most exciting professional players from Brighton and London.

There will be a dance space below and in front of the stage so that you can salsa with Bacalao.

Haven’t salsa-ed before? Come to the Café Bar from 6.30pm-7.30pm to learn a few salsa moves with Peter and Amanda from Salsa Fiesta before the show for free!

Cocktails and tostones (a delicious Cuban bar snack) will also be available in the Café Bar to enhance the Latino flavour.
