Hi Folks,
The April 2008 edition of Worlds of Trad Internet radio is now uploaded,
will be on-line until Wednesday May 14th, and features three hours of the very
best in traditional folk, ethnic, world, roots, blues, old time country and
early jazz; in fact traditional music from absolutely everywhere.
In this month’s bargain basement bonanza there’s a whole loada jelly
rollin’ and a whole loada holy rollin’. In the jelly rollers corner we’ve got
Cotton Thompson, who ain’t giving nobody none of his, Lil Johnson, who sure
misses hers, Al Dexter, who’s renewed his, and Lu Watters Yerba Buena Band, and
there’s no way that I’m going to tell you what they’ve done with
theirs.
For the holy rollers we’ve got the Blind Boys of Alabama, backed by the
Preservation Hall Jazzband, The Clouds Of Heaven Trombone Shout Band, Doc
Watson, and that wonderful old veteran of the Memphis blues scene, Furry Lewis.
If you can’t save your jelly roll, these guys will make sure you save your
soul.
In between, we’ve got some first class old time string band music,
courtesy of the Downtrodden String Band, Clyde Davenport and Dwight Diller.
There‘s a bunch of US presidential election songs; there’s a cluster of songs
about young girls married to old men; there’s a few Scots fiddle tunes; Kevin
Mitchell and Sarah Grey give us a song apiece; there’s a hoolie of hootin’ and
hollerin’ from Switzerland, Sweden and North Carolina; some ethnic sounds from
the Big Apple; some more ethnic sounds from Africa; and Washboard Sam and the
Dixie Reelers are here to tell you, those sleeping tablets just do not work.
And there’s a small tribute to one of the truly great leaders of the
twentieth century, Dr. Martin King, who was brutally assassinated just over
forty years ago.
