Dear Friends

BIG NATIONAL CEILIDH : 18 October 2008

supported by FolkArtsEngland, EFDSS and Foundry Media

The Big National Ceilidh is now just six months away. Over 30 events are already registered – stretching from Somerset to Scotland and Scarborough to West Wales, but some areas are not particularly well represented, and it would be great if we could double or even treble that number – or get up to the hundred, even!

Please would you help by either:

  • Forwarding this message to any ceilidh bands, ceilidh dance fans, venues or others who might want to organise a ceilidh on that night;
  • or Sending us email addresses or contact lists for any bands etc. in your region;
  • or Simply encouraging any likely participants to sign up for an event now.

This is a great chance for us to make a national impact and raise the profile of our Traditional Music and Dancing. Please do give a few minutes of your time to help it grow!

The Big National Ceilidh is a night when, in cities, towns and villages all over the country, thousands of people will simultaneously be dancing to the music of live bands.

The night is 18 October 2008.

Each event will be locally organised and distinctive, but two main elements will bind them together:
·        the proceeds from all the events will be given to a single, hugely worthwhile, charity, WaterAid;
·        and  at 10.00 all the bands will be playing the same tune Jamie Allen) and as many people as possible will be dancing The Circassian Circle.

Don't worry if you think your event might not raise much money: the important thing is to be involved!!

Thank You!!

David and Joey Oliver
