Equator 2008

Subitango will be performed with the music and dance of Tango Argentino in Ashford on Friday 25 April at 8.00pm in Brake Hall, Ashford School. This will be as a part of the Equator World Music Series celebrating world music, dance and theatre.

Subitango is performed by the UK’s leading tango dancers Kicca and Giraldo and the musicians of Tango Siempre. The show combines live music with stunning choreographed dance, illustrating the history and development of this most sensual and passionate of art forms.

Kicca and Giraldo studied with the greatest tango maestros in Buenos Aires and have performed extensively throughout Europe and Latin America. Tango Siempre’s music is passionate, intense, soulful and unique on the British musical scene, breathing new life into nuevo tango with fiery improvisation, sparkling collective interplay and solid grooves.

“…this is a show which presents Argentinean tango as a meticulous, passionate and intense art form. A brilliant introduction to one of the most exciting dance genres ever to have emerged from Latin America.” - The Western Mail

“…a brilliant fusion of classical, tango, jazz and roots” - The Guardian

“A stunning display of athleticism… moves that took the breath away” - Eastern Daily Press

The Equator World Music Series will continue until late June bringing further world-class musicians, dancers and storytellers to Ashford with influences ranging from Argentina, Africa, China, the Caribbean, Spain and India.
