Autumn 2008 Session

Many thanks to all tutors and candidates who took part in a successful Spring 2008 session ranging from Glasgow to Edinburgh to Stornoway this past March.

Entries are now being taken for graded exams or ungraded performance assessments in fiddle, accordion (including melodeons), Scottish harp, cello and viola at our next scheduled session, which will take place from Monday 27 October to Wednesday 29 October 2008 at RSAMD premises.

The deadline for entries is Monday 22 September 2008.

Exams and assessments at other locations around Scotland are likely to be arranged to coincide with this session, depending on demand; if you are a teacher, instructor or parent, live too far from Glasgow and wish instead to request an examiner's visit or videoconference link to your school or area, please contact us in the first instance.  A minimum of 10-12 candidates in any one discipline usually applies to make the visit economically feasible.  Such visits are can be arranged at any time of year, depending on an examiner’s availability.  Please get in touch if you are interested.

Publications

As usual, any as-yet unpublished music listed in our syllabuses is available to download directly from Scottish music publisher Taigh na Teud (www.scotlandsmusic.com).  RSAMD and Taigh na Teud are working together to produced printed collections of repertoire available wherever Taigh na Teud publications are sold; the first series, for Scottish harp, should be available from August 2008 and those for fiddle and accordion by late 2008 – early 2009.  We hope these collections will prove useful not just to tutors and candidates but to all who enjoy the breadth and diversity of traditional Scottish music.

Best wishes to all for the summer!
