Evan Christopher DJANGO A LA CREOLE Quartet

headed up by one of the worlds best Clarinettists - Evan Christopher

FRIDAY 8th AUGUST £15

Christopher whilst living in Paris recently, worked diligently to raise awareness about the

musical culture of New Orleans where he lived until the floods, through concerts and

masterclasses. He also formed his own groups, the Jazz Traditions Project and Django à

la Créole. For Django à la Créole, the idea was simple enough: Spice up the Hot Club texture

pioneered by Django Reinhardt by emphasizing hallmarks of New Orleans Jazz including blues,

rhythms of the monde Créole, and collective improvisation. The quartet released the recent

"Django à la Créole" CD in New Orleans during the 25th anniversary of the famous French

Quarter Festival. Elegant and impassioned, New Orleans-based clarinettist Evan Christopher's

style is steeped in the tradition exemplified by early jazz masters such as Sidney Bechet, Jimmie

Noon and Barney Bigard. Together with UK based guitarists David Blenkhorn & Dave Kelbie,

and bassist Sebastien Girardot, the quartet celebrates the music of the legendary Django

Reinhardt and enlivens swing-era classics with fresh interpretations and virtuosic

improvisations. This concert will be a fine blend of Hot Club and Creole just what it says on

This concert will be a fine blend of Hot Club and Creole just what it says on

the box! not to be missed. We advise booking as early as possible.

This concert will be a fine blend of Hot Club and Creole just what it says on

the box! not to be missed. We advise booking as early as possible.

This concert will be a fine blend of Hot Club and Creole just what it says on

the box! not to be missed. We advise booking as early as possible.

FLEUR DE PARIS

SUNDAY 31st AUGUST 2008 £10

“Be transported to a more elegant era, a unique atmosphere that provides an irresistible

combination of live music, great food and hospitality in a setting as alluring as a coquette’s

boudoir.”

A sparkling night of authentic Parisian swinging society cafe music with the chic Fleur de Paris,

London-based quartet specializing in the old French café & music-hall styles of pre & post war

chanson & musette. This rich and evocative strand of twentieth century music is brought to

life by the

beautiful and charming voice of chanteuse Lo Polidoro,  accompanied by the accordion and

piano of Christian Dupont, the violin of Kirsten Hammond and the guitar of Martin Brown.

Well-loved favourites and lesser-known gems from such names as: Charles Trenet, Yves

Montand, Andre Claveau & Edith Piaf are interspersed with musette waltzes and swing tunes,

dating from the 1890s to the 1950s. Et que vive la chanson francaise!
