The Institute 
of Ideas presents a discussion on English folk music entitled 'Who Gives a 
Folk?' at Vibe Live, Brick Lane, London at 7pm on 29 July. Musicians Chris Wood, 
Barb Jungr and a number of other commentators will consider the question, 'Has

Portuguese Música Viva Festival is looking for electroacoustic minatures for an 
installation entitled 'Sound Walk', which will run 19–27 September at Belem Arts

Traditional 
music diploma through Irish at NUI Galway
NUI Galway has announced the Diploma of 
Arts in the Composition, Arrangement and Performance of Traditional Music, a new 
programme to be taught through Irish. The diploma will be a full-time, one-year 
course and will take place in An Spidéal, Co. na Gaillimhe. The course will 
focus on music theory and structure; the history and development of the 
traditional arts in Ireland; and the archiving, composition, arrangement, 
recording and performance of traditional music. Numbers are restricted to
