TORNADO ROSENBERG from the stages of the world joins fabulous eclectic MAZAIKA

 

bringing you an extraordinary exhilarating musical feast, of French Gypsy Swing/song, Russian Gypsy music/song guaranteed to transport you from the Parisian café to the glow of the Gypsy Campfire.  Mazaika: European/USA regular performers with Sarah Harrison, violin, and Igor Outkine, accordion/vocals (seen in the recent David Cronenberg movie “Eastern Promises” singing “Dark Eyes”). They have performed with Mark Almond, Fascinating Aida, Antonio Forcione, Django Bates and Loyko Russian Gypsy Band.  Their music feels like a dazzling escape into a world where people dance on tables with roses between their teeth. ‘ Metro [Mazaika Edinburgh 2006] ’ An evening of magic and passion’ Independent [Mazaika Purcell room 2006]

 

Tornado Rosenberg: (German gypsy) at 5 he was taught the guitar music of Django Reinhardt by his father, 2 years later they recording together. Performed with Harry Belafonte, Joan Baez, and won the German records award for the best CD. (1995).  His unique style/compositions cover swing, bossa nova and folklore, accompanied by Freddy Wicke (rhythm guitar) who played in the Kussi Weiss Ensemble and as Django style-musician in various theatre projects with Gypsy actors. They are joined by David Miles on Double Bass

From their diverse age-old musical traditions, through to Eastern Europe and the Balkans and on to modern styles like Rom Pop and very uniquely to sophisticated playing of Gypsy Swing/Jazz Manouche.

 

Accomplished singers as well as virtuoso instrumentalists; blending rich and driving rhythms of double bass, guitar, accordions, violin and polyphonic vocals, delivering minestrone of energy with a full range of emotional expression, typical of their culture.
