Having enjoyed ourselves immensely many times at the Magpies Nest nights, we wanted to tell you about a couple of rather special shows that they have coming up….

The first being Bodega + The Worm + DJs taking place at The Old Boys Hall (Dalston) on Friday 28th November. The glorious Old Boys Hall is an enchanting, secret Victorian ballroom set in the back streets of Dalston, East London. Forget about the Mustache Bar, this venue is the place to be!! Bodega are the most unruly and hotly tipped band to emerge from the Scottish islands; funk-infused dance tunes performed by the current young pretenders to the crown of acoustic dance bands. The Worm come from a little closer to home proving that Dalstonites can also make you dance ‘til dawn!

The second is Christmas Champions: Chris Wood, Hugh Lupton + The English Acoustic Collective at Cecil Sharp House (The Nest) on Thursday 4th December.

Christmas Champions was originally written for BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction. Now a live multimedia show has been commissioned by The Sage Gateshead and will be touring in December 2008. BBC Folk Award winning duo Chris Wood and Hugh Lupton are joined by The English Acoustic Collective and Olivia Ross in a performance that mixes the recorded voices of past generations with ritual theatre, seasonal song, storytelling and music in a celebration of England’s most enduring midwinter custom: The Mummers Play.
