Hello...
...and welcome to the new signees!
This is the only bit of work I’m doing today, then its crumpets in front of the fire I think. Hope there’s something good on the tele. What a great few weeks of music, the lovely Karine last weekend thanks to all of you who came to that, I’ll ask you about it a bit later. Then the powerful Oysterband last night at the Marlowe fantastic performance from them but agony having to dance while sitting down. I loved that John Sargeant got a mention when JJ dedicated ‘Dancing as fast as I can’ to him and that Barham got two mentions wey hey fame at last for my village. Nothing to do with me however, John Jones lived there 30 years ago at the start of it all and wrote ‘Oxford Girl’ one of my favourites while living in Out Elmsted Lane. I’m determined to get them back to the Kingston Barn somehow watch this space though it could be a while. They’re at the Forum in London on the 12th Dec for their 30th anniversary birthday celebration gig. It was a double treat as Chris Wood bewitched everyone in the first half with the wonderful stories his songs tell. I was entranced and could have listened for a lot longer.
Saw Attilla the Stockbroker at Faversham FC last Weds what can I say! I’d heard he was ‘interesting’ - mix punk and poetry and you get the idea. Raw and real and challenging, clever words, humour, anger and vegetables! Admired his passion even if i didn’t share all his views. Well done Faversham folk club for being one of only two folk clubs that would have him back, great entertainment. They have Steve Turner 10th Dec and Omega 3 on the 17th to finish their year.
I met Iain Hazlewood on Friday who runs the folk/acoustic website www.spiralearth.co.uk/ Check it out if you haven’t seen it, a very useful resource and packed full of folky info.
Great to hear so many of our favourite FiTB musicians have done well in the 2008 folk award nominations. Megson, Phil Beer, Martin Simpson, Karine Polwart, Chris While and Julie Matthews, Julie Fowlis and Seth Lakeman have all been nominated this year. The winners will be announced in early February. www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/event/folkawards2009/
Karine Polwart Trio 16th Nov
Karine then. Nothing but high praise for her honest and thoughtful performance. I loved the harmonies and both Inge and Stevens’s accompaniments. The beautiful lighting and landscapes projected on to the backdrop really added to the atmosphere. Almost everyone found the venue on time. And most of the feedback has been very positive. It’s a pity it was dark because you couldn’t see the beautiful setting. How was it for you? Some prefered it to the ISC because of the raked seating. Please let me know your thoughts and whether you’d be happy to go there again.
St Agnes Fountain - 7th Dec
Only 4 tickets left for the Aggies on the 7th Dec at the ISC. They will sell no doubt but don’t be discouraged from applying if you still want to come. There are always spare tickets on the night and those on the waiting list often get a call. Full details on www.folkinthebarn.co.uk for those who haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about.
Don't forget the guest book for comments and your own use - lift sharing to gigs, ticket swaps etc etc www.ultraguest.com/view/1185547542
Next Fibbers night on the 8th Dec.

Off to toast crumpets, keep warm!
