Morrissey Symposium
A symposium on the music of Morrissey – entitled 'The Songs That Saved Your Life (Again) – will take place at the University of Limerick on Saturday, 25 April. The symposium coincides with performances by Morrissey in Ireland. A book will be published based on a selection of the featured symposium papers. Proposals for papers, which may concern a wide range of Morrissey-related topics, should be submitted by 9 January. Send 250-word abstracts to eoin_dot_devereux_at_ul_dot_ie 

West Cork Music Composers' Awards
West Cork Music have announced details of their annual composition awards, which are open to composers under the age of thirty on 1 January 2009. Composers are invited to submit works of five to eight minutes in duration for a workshop and performance at the 2009 West Cork Chamber Music Festival in June. Works for string quartet, string trio and piano trio will considered. The composer of each selected work will receive a prize of €800. The deadline for submissions is 31 January. A Sliver of Voice
A workshop based on the experimental performance piece Un Hilo de Voz (A Sliver of Voice) by the Argentinian Guillermo Pesoa and Maia Monaca will take place in Dublin on 22 February. The workshop will focus on the vocal techniques used in the work, as well as movement and sonic meditation techniques. The workshop, which is aimed at theatre and music professionals, will take place at The Back Loft, 7–11 St Augustine Street, Dublin 8 between 11.30am and 5.30pm and costs €80.
