All the best,

                              MUSICAL TRADITIONS CLUB     WINTER  2009

***********************************************************************

Friday 16th January 2009
SAM LEE and LAUREN McCORMICK
Fresh voices and a fresh approach to traditional song to begin the New Year. Fast rising stars of the latest revival,  Sam has become apprenticed to the great traveller singer Stanley Robertson who is passing
on his legacy of ballads, while  Lauren has a beautiful voice and has been developing her distinctive solo singing (after The Devil’s Interval) as well as duetting with Sam.
Plus banjo tunes from Ed Hicks and Friends

                                 TWO DATES IN FEBRUARY

Friday 6th February
SARA GREY and KIERON MEANS
New Englander Sara is truly remarkable singer of the old ballads, prefacing the songs with fascinating background stories. Her distinguished frailing style on the banjo shows just how this instrument should be played. Kieron, Sara's son, a brilliant guitar player, has a strikingly individual sound. His material draws from the deepest wellsprings of North American culture and the work of latter-day songwriters steeped in the old traditions. With Will Duke and Dan Quinn

 Friday 20 February
Máire NÃÊ Chéileachair and Dónal Maguire
Brilliant  singer from Co.Cork,  Máire NÃÊ Chéileachair  sings classic songs in  Irish and English and her first CD  Guth ar Fán  won high praise from the late Paddy Tunney.
Dónal  is a fine exponent of the high  Irish style  and puts across ballads with great power, several of which he  collected in his native Co. Louth. He is also noted for his ready wit and is recognised as a great player of Irish dance music on mandolin and tenor banjo.
With American old-time songs and tunes from Gail Williams and Jim Younger.

 Friday  13th March
JIM and  LYNETTE ELDON
Songs and tunes from our favourite Yorkshire singer /fiddle player plus brilliant and immaculate clog dancing from Lynette. A long overdue revisit.
