Ear-plugged Festival
The Ear-plugged Festival takes 
place at the LAB, Foley Street, Dublin 1 on 26–28 February. Staged by 
Electroacoustic Revue (EAR), the Festival features performances of composed and 
improvised music by The Quiet Club and the EAR Ensemble, among others. A 
screening of audiovisual works will also take place as well as performances of 
Thalassa ~ Muir ~ Sea, a 'transformation of Ancient Greek and Old Irish 
poetry through contemporary dance, sound and visuals' featuring Gordon Delap, 
Michaela Fuenfhausen, Pavlos Kanellakis, Anthony Kelly, Slavek Kwi, Paddy 
Sammon, David Stalling and Uwe Storch.

ICTM Ireland Annual 
Conference
The annual conference of the 
International Council for Traditional Music Ireland (ICTMIrl) is being held at 
the UCD school of Music 27–28 February. The keynote address is being given by Dr 
Susanne Ziegler, Berlin Phonogramm-Archiv, who will later be presenting 
materials held by her archive to the Irish Traditional Music Archive. The papers 
discussed will focus on issues of recording traditional music.

Kronos Quartet in 
Dundalk
The Kronos Quartet is to perform at 
An Táin Theatre, Dundalk, Co. Louth on 13 July. The San Francisco-based string 
quartet will be joined be pipa player Wu Man to perform Terry Riley's 
Cusp of 
Magic and Tan Dun's 
Ghost Opera. 
Ghost Opera is a five 
movement work incorporating water, metal, stone and paper as well as shadow

Kronos Quartet previously performed in Ireland with the accordion player Tony 
MacMahon, whose memoir is published in the current issue of
