Subject: GIGS UPDATE...
Hi people,
As we launch headlong
into the recession, just remember, that these dark times of no money seem to
coincide with the blossoming of new and vibrant music scenes...and the start of
this year is no exception!
So, some gig news...firstly, my own TWILIGHT FOLK
updates-(all gigs of course at ORANGE STREET MUSIC CLUB,
CANTERBURY).
Obviously, i shall be seeing you all at the  ROBB JOHNSON
gig on friday night (with PHILIP G MARTINS DROHNE / RELIG ORAN)....but theres a
couple of additions to the TIM EDEY gig on WEDS 18TH Feb- MOTHER MOLOTOV will be
supporting, for those of you who saw AMENES support THE OWL SERVICE, well, this
will be a treat, as this is they under a new name!-also,  PHILIP G MARTIN
will be performing again (due to his links with TIM EDEY)-in his own
words-
"Philip G. Martin will be playing tracks from his criticaly
aclaimed latest album Le Son du Bois, which features many top-line guest
musicians including Tim Edey. The music of Drohne aka Philip G Martin features a
variety of less-common instruments, such as hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes and cittern
and draws on the influence of  European traditional dance music and
medieval psychedelia. Hear more at www.drohne.co.uk and
www.myspace.com/philipgmartin The cd Le son du Bois will be available at the gig
or from iTunes."
On APRIL-WEDS 22nd, we have  -THE SONS OF NOEL AND
ADRIAN  www.myspace.com/sonsofnoelandadrian
-the support for this
will be SHORELINE-www.myspace.com/shorelinemusic
“Shoreline take a
refreshing dip into the waters of new folk with a nine piece ensemble
predominantly made up of members hewn from the WILLKOMMEN COLLECTIVE. Boasting
Brighton's finest strings section, textural guitars weaving through plaintive
banjo and the stunning voices of Beatrice Sanjust (MOONSHINEMOONSHINE), James De
Malplaquet (THE MISERABLE RICH) and Jacob Richardson (SONS OF NOEL &
ADRIAN). Shoreline make their mark as indisputable bearers of the new folk
crown. “
Trust me, this will be incredible…
And the last confirmed act
so far this year is on WEDS 24TH JUNE - THE
KITTIWAKES.- www.myspace.com/kittiwakes
'Absolutely wonderful. I
cannot recommend highly enough catching them live if you get the chance' - Folk
and Roots Online __ 'The Kittiwakes (rissa tridactyla): delicious, intriguing
and evocative music, beautifully played and sung by this talented trio.
Recommended to twitchers and lovers of folk music alike' - Paul Collier, Leigh
Folk Festival __ 'The Kittiwakes craft timeless and magical acoustically dappled
folk treats - gentle and alluring ostensibly Gaelic in sound texture and
gorgeously flighty braided as they are by corteges of mandolins, accordions and
violins.' - Losing Today
Ok, other stuff-NANCY WALLACE from the OWL
SERVICE has just released a wonderful
album- www.myspace.com/nancywallace -

recording fashions an amazing intimacy with her listener, ****"

"This set should pave the way to wider recognition for Wallace, one
of the finest folk vocalists of her generation" Music Week
I am hoping to
book NANCY to play (with JASON STEELE) at some point later in the year, and
hopefully a return visit from THE OWL SERVICE, who I hear are hard at work on a
very exciting new musical project, and have a few gigs lined up
too….
