Subject: Culture Secretary's 5-Point Plan For Music

Culture Secretary Andy Burnham has laid out what he called a five-point plan for the music business.

In a speech at a jointly hosted BPI and Academy of Contemporary Music event on the House of Commons terrace Burnham said he will
provide support to the industry with his new five-point plan this year. This comprises:

1. Plans for the Government to push to extend copyright protection from the current 50 years

2. Raise awareness of illegal downloading by educating young people

3. Opening more rehearsal spaces for musicians in "disadvantaged communities"

4. Support more music education in schools

5. Support the music industry to introduce more apprenticeships as a way of "re-investing" in future talent
