Site 1 - Camp as you always
have It's your
Festival, so when you speak we listen and that is
just what we have done this year with regard to
camp sites. They will stay just as you like them
and we will continue to look for improvements
along the way.
The Bus is Back! The vintage London Transport Routemaster Bus is
back for its third year. This great edition to the
Festival provides a quick and easy link to Thame (the
nearby town), with whom the Festival has close links. So
hop on board, get to the cash machine, visit Thame or
just enjoy the experience of a London bus in the
beautiful Oxfordshire
countryside.
Shooting Roots The original and the best -
Shooting Roots is the Youth programme run for young
people by young people and is probably the
leading Folk Festival Youth programme in the country!
This year will see a further improved venue in The Hive
and wall-to-wall, non-stop music, song, dance and
theatre and good times for all 12-25 year olds. Come
once and you'll never look back!
The Music So
Far A mighty Towersey
line-up begins to take shape and what a line-up it is.
Headliners include the ground breaking The
Imagined Village
(with its all star cast including Martin and
Eliza Carthy, Chris Wood and Simon
Emerson). Then we have The Waterson
Family, The Karine Polwart Band, Edward II, Devon
Sproule, Shooglenifty ...... the list goes on.
With more big names to come, it's going to be another
packed programme.
New Stages, New Spaces, New
Look We always strive to improve, while keeping an eye
on the past and this year is no different.
The Concert Stage will be
bigger and have a more flexible audience space, so more
of you will get under canvas and watch the show how you
want to watch it.
To replace the Arena we are
introducing three new stages to the expanded
Showground with a packed day long
programme of Streat Theatre, Dance, Spectacle and
more.
We are
opening an Acoustic Stage in The Hive
for those who want a quieter late night and we are
building The Den - a new "chill out" space on
Site 2 with a Library, Tea and Cakes and we are
working on some Visual Art - a place to get away from it
all and kick back with fellow campers.
Tickets selling faster than
ever.........No, they really are! We know it's a cliché but tickets are selling
faster than ever before, especially for Site 1. We are
miles ahead of any previous year and they show no signs
of slowing so please don't miss out! This is
not scaremongering or clever selling tactics,
it is a genuine plea to all those who know and love
Towersey. We would hate for you to miss your favourite
Festival.
The Waterson
Family A rare chance to
see the big family line-up of the "First Family of
Folk". Coming straight from the National Concert
Hall in Dublin to be with us on Monday, this is an
opportunity to see Mike Waterson, his daughters
and wife, as well as the late Lal Waterson's
children Ollie Knight and Maria Gilhooley,
alongside the Waterson:Carthy line-up of Norma
Waterson, Martin and Eliza Carthy and Saul
Rose.
What Makes Towersey Special - The Real
Village This year we are lucky enough to have The
Imagined Village headlining in the Festival Dance
House, but last year fRoots (national publication
for Folk and Roots Music), did a huge feature
write up of Towersey 2008 and nothing has ever
better captured what makes this Festival so
special.
