Dear Mailing List,
welcome to the new look Magpie's Nest email! We hope you like it, and hope it will make browsing all our up coming shows easier.
April is set to be a busy month for The Magpie's Nest. On Wednesday THIS WEEK, a cracking show with Danny and the Champions of the World, playing alongside Shona Foster AND Pete Roe, at The Old Queen's Head.
After the Easter break we have two big shows, one each from the new Magpie's Nest sister nights. On Thursday 23rd April, Folklahoma, in association with EFDSS, presents a St Georges Day concert at Cecil Sharp House. For the less traditional, on Friday 24th April, Two For Joy presents the first installment of Friday Folk - Tunes - with The Long Notes and Mawkin:Causley, at a hidden art space in Stoke Newington. To round things off at the end of the month, back at The Old Queen's Head, Two For Joy presents an evening of trad Irish music from veteran London based band The London Lasses with support from Terence O'Flaherty.
Hope to see y'all at one, or more, of the above events. Get your folk on.

An intimate set from main-stagers Danny and the Champions of the World - performing as a duo. Already booked for a host of festivals, the creative forces behind the Truck Festival here perform material from their critically acclaimed album. We love the album, highly rate their live shows - so come check it out!
When we first saw Shona Foster play with her band we knew we had to book her for The Old Queen's Head - quirky and mesmerizing music, beautifully sung, with intricate arrangements from the band consisting of fiddle, percussion and bass. We guarantee you'll be enchanted by her music.
A late addition to the bill, Pete Roe, a rare talent playing his blend of Folk/Acoustic/Roots music - catch him play here before he's off around Europe for a tour!

Thursday 23rd April
Cecil Sharp House
10, 7pm-11pm
Folklahoma, the EFDSS and fRoots presents a celebratory gig at Cecil Sharp House on St George's Day, 23rd April. It showcases some of the great English folk artists now emerging from outside the established folk scene - Ian King, Nancy Wallace, Mary Epworth and Olivia Chaney all of whom will be amongst the subjects of a cover feature on the May issue of fRoots magazine published on the same day.
Headliner Ian King is, for example, looked after by Bobby Marshall (manager of Asian Dub Foundation), produced by Adrian Sherwood and has Little Axe's Skip McDonald in his sometime band - playing English traditional songs with a brass section. Shirley Collins is a big fan.
Nancy Wallace has a new solo CD and is on leave from being singer with The Memory Band. Mary Epworth was considered by many to have been one of the hits of the South Bank's Sandy Denny tribute last December and her single "Saddle Song" caused quite a stir.
Also on the bill will be storyteller Debs Newbold, Suffolk Howler Mummers, the C# House Choir, a brawl in the bar and much more. It starts at 7.30 pm and costs a very modest 10.
