FOXY MUSIC - STEVE JAMES UK TOUR

The legendary American guitarist and mandolin-player Steve James was once called “the high priest of Austin’s blues shamans.”  He plays American roots music – early country blues, with echoes of old-time minstrel shoes and vaudeville.  He will be touring the UK in June 2009 and Foxy Music is proud to announce that we are helping him fill some gaps in his schedule.  His flawless fingerpicking, immaculate slide guitar, strong vocals and spookily intense performances are something special, so we hope you’ll take advantage of these free dates.

Free dates are:  Weds 24 June, Thurs 25 June, Mon 29th June, Tues 30 June, Weds 1 July, Thurs 2 July, Fri 3 July, Sun 5 July.

Steve’s brand new CD ‘Short Blue Stories’ is currently #6 on the Euro-Americana Chart and #15 on the Folk-Dj Chart USA.  Steve also has the #6 most played song on the Folk-Dj Song Chart this month. Read about it at: http://www.stevejames.com/shortbluestories.html

Steve is available both as a SOLO act OR with universally-acclaimed Seattle country-soul siren, RACHEL HARRINGTON (described by Q Magazine as “inspiringly original”), from 29th June – 5th July.

Steve’s full tour itinerary is listed below.

STEVE JAMES BIOG – Steve is a well known name among devotees of contemporary acoustic folk and blues through his numerous critically acclaimed recordings, a tireless international tour schedule and a sheaf of published work including articles, instruction books and videos. His instrumental versatility (on guitar, slide guitar, mandolin, guitar-banjo) also makes him a favourite at festivals and workshop programmes. He has been interviewed for features in Acoustic Guitar, Guitar Player, Blues Revue and Folk Roots (to name a few), and has been heard on radio shows worldwide.

In the studio, he has worked with Bob Brozman, Bad Livers, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Cindy Cashdollar, Maria Muldaur, Gary Primich, Ruthie Foster and Del Rey. He has played live with and as support to such luminaries as John Fahey, John Hammond, Bo Diddley, Bill Monroe, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Dave van Ronk and Howard Armstrong. Steve has also appeared on numerous compilation albums, including a recent Grammy-nominated tribute to Mississippi Fred McDowell and an homage to Charley Patton to which he contributed both music and liner notes.

A noted traveller, Steve James has toured extensively, playing at festivals, concerts and clubs throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico, Ireland and the UK, continental Europe, Australia and Brazil and China.
