HAMPSHIRE 
SONGS NEWS from Bob Askew
On Friday 15th May at 7.30pm there will be 
a concert of the 'Axford Five' show at the United Church at Winchester 
Mayfest.
Craig-Morgan-Robson and the Askew Sisters 
present a concert of Hampshire traditional songs from five 
women who lived in the nearby village of Axford. The show received great acclaim 
when it was premiered at Preston Candover Village Hall and Gosport and Fareham 
Festival. It will go on to Chippenham, Sidmouth and Whitby Festivals to 
introduce the great songs of Hampshire to people in other 
counties.

Morgan adds:
"We’ve also just 
finished recording a CD with the Askew Sisters, an album of traditional 
Hampshire folk songs collected by George Gardiner. We’ve been doing the 
recording at the marvellous Wild Goose Studios in Wherwell, with Doug Bailey at 
the helm. Much of the research for the project has been done by Emily and 
Hazel’s father, Bob Askew, and we really appreciate his support and enthusiasm. 
We’ll be performing the songs as a concert set (The Axford Five) at a number of 
festivals and we are pleased to say that our first performance in Preston 
Candover went really well, supported by a tremendous display of photographic 
material from the Hampshire Records Office. BTW, the name “The Axford Five” 
refers to the five women from whose repertoires the songs are taken, who all 
lived in or near the village of Axford, near Basingstoke. The CD should be ready 
for Chippenham Festival."
