Ciarán Ó
Maonaigh is a young fiddle player from Gaoth Dobhair, County Donegal. A grandson of Proinsias Ó
Maonaigh (a.k.a. Francie Mooney) and nephew of ‘Altan’s’ Mairead Ó Maonaigh, he
was winner of the prestigious 2003 TG4 Young Traditional Musician of
the Year Award. He recently joined with two more acclaimed young Donegal
fiddle players, Aidan O’Donnell and Damien McGeehan to form the trio ‘Fidil’ and
they have just released their debut albu. ‘Fidil’ are this year’s recipient of
the Music Network Young Music-wide Award and they currently being hailed as one
of the most exciting young ‘trad’ acts to have emerged from Ireland in a
long time – Simply do not miss.
