Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, winners of the Best Duo Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2005, will be making an appearance at the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury.
Aly Bain is the best known and most significant fiddle player in the Celtic tradition. He is rightly regarded as Scotland's supreme fiddler- arguably the finest of all time. As a founder member of Boys of the Lough, Aly has toured extensively in America, Europe and the UK. In 1994 Aly was awarded an M.B.E. in recognition of his services to music and was further honoured in 1999, receiving the degree of Doctor of Music from the Royal ScottishAcademy of Music and Drama.
Phil Cunningham is a world famous accordion player and composer. Aly and Phil have been touring together since 1988 to packed concert halls around Europe. In 2002 Phil received an M.B.E. for his contribution to Scottish music. . In recent years Phil's work load has included numerous commissions for TV and film and an increasing amount of work as musical director for television and large theatrical events.
Aly and Phil have been touring together since 1988 to packed concert halls. They recorded their first album The Pearl in 1994. In January 1999 they left for the United States where they spent a year touring coast to coast. This was their second tour as a duo and it proved an outstanding success. Since then they have toured extensively in Spain, Scotland and a host of festivals in Europe.
“They are simply the best traditional musicians you are ever likely to hear" Mike Russell, The Glasgow Herald

Subject: Miranda Sykes joins Phil Beer & Fairport sell out

Hello....
A big surprise this week - I got an email to say that Miranda Sykes will be joining Phil Beer for our last show of this current season
at East Dean's village hall on Sunday 14th June.....

So that gives us two thirds of the Show of Hands line up and almost certainly a sell-out
for the hall is much smaller than the Hailsham Pavilion and already more than half the tickets
have gone.....

Those that are left however are ONLY obtainable from the Pavilion - 01323 841414

Talking of sell-outs - all seats are now sold for our next show - Fairport Convention
at the Hailsham Pavilion on Sunday 3rd May......Phone 01323 841414 for returns

Two weeks later - Saturday 16th May we have Albert Lee & Hogans Heroes.......
again all we have are returns and "odds & ends" - about nine or ten remain....Phone 01323 841414

No panic at the moment for Chris While and Julie Matthews (Sunday 31st May)
but the show is selling well and it will be good to see Chris Sherburn (ex Last Night's Fun) again
who is set to open the evening with Bella Hardy - Phone 841414 for seats
