Choir Competition Finalist’s Concert with a world music
flavour
The Equator Choir
Competition
Finalist’s Concert will be taking place at St. Mary’s Church, Ashford,
on Thursday 2nd July at 7pm. This event is part of the
Equator World Music Series, a celebration of world music,
dance and theatre in Ashford.
Schools, youth, and adult
choirs from
across Kent were invited to submit an entry and eight choirs have been
shortlisted to perform for the audience and judges at the final. Each entry had
to include at least one song from another country or
culture.
The
judging panel includes highly experienced musicians from round the country
including Perri Alleyne-Hughes, music director of Sense of Sound - one of the
finalist choirs from the BBC Last Choir Standing Competition, Paul Patterson
-composer, Deborah Miles-Johnson, associate chorus master from the Philharmonia
Chorus, and Priti Paintal - composer and Artistic director of Equator.
Choirs
will be judged on the following:
presentation, quality, and choice of material.
The final event of the spring
season of the Equator World Music Series will be Jez Lowe and
