1. Every year my street holds a street party and this year my neighbour has asked me if I can source a folk music group to play during the day.
ideally asked for fiddle and banjo but would probably be grateful for any volunteers (!)
They can pay a small sum towards expenses (maybe £50) so would suit local musios wanting to do some promotion work / perhaps some peeps from the local Morris bands or dance clubs?
20 min set maybe sometime between 4 and 8pm. 1st Sunday in Sept.
Let me know if you might be able to help (me!) out here, and I'll get more details.

Subject: SMC PA availabliity

Hi Jon, Adrian and Chris,

The SMC (Spooky Men's Chorale) is on the look out for a pair of PA
speakers and an Amplifier - or pair of powered speakers to take on our
tour. I plan to have a small digital mixer with me so we really just need
the speakers plus a pair of stands. They don't have to be big, 12 or 15
and horn would be fine, as long as they are reasonable quality.

As you guys prob already know I am a professional live audio operator (see
my business www.crispaudio.com.au) so they won't be abused.

It's just to cover small halls and events where we just need a little help
with sound reinforcement.

I guess we're looking for someone who ran or runs a solo/duo act that has
some speakers and stands laying around, or someone who has a contact with
a PA hire organisation. We don't expect them for free, but we do have a
kinda tight budget too.

So if you guys have any leads and/or could spread the word for us then that would be appreciated.

Thanks Robin

Lib Dem peer promises new bill to revive live music scene

Liberal Democrat culture spokesman Lord Tim Clement-Jones has branded the government’s proposed minor variations rule for the Licensing Act 2003 a “mouse of a regulation”, which is “no substitute” for a small venues exemption.

The peer said he will bring forward a bill that will “breathe new life into our music scene”.

Lord Clement-Jones’ comments were made earlier this week during a debate in the House of Lords, when he also reiterated criticisms that licensing laws had not delivered an increase in live music.

More than half of charitable trusts expect to cut their grant-making this year

More than half of charitable trusts expect to cut their grant-making this year, according to a survey of its members carried out last month by the Association of Charitable Foundations.

Fifty-one per cent of those who answered questions about future grant-making said they expected it to fall in their next financial year. Only 10 per cent said they expected it to increase. Thirty-six per cent said they expected it to fall next year as well, compared with only 19 per cent expecting an increase.

However, the long-term outlook is more optimistic. For the period of three years and beyond, 21 per cent said they expected their grant-making to fall, but 45 per cent said they intended to increase it.

Dear Rachel,

I thought my Summer school project might be of interest to some members. Could you please pass it on to anyone who may be interested?

Many thanks,
William Summers.

Dear music fan,

I am looking for adult recorder players and dancers with some knowledge to join the Morley College Summer School this July.

Classes will run between 2 and 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6th. to the 17th. July.

Musicians [taught by me] and dancers [taught by Darren Royston of Nonsuch Historical Dance Company] will rehearse separately on Mondays and Wednesdays, and together on Fridays. The music will include dances by Holborne, Augustine Bassano, Susato and others, and will be tailored to suit the abilities of those enrolling.

For more information about repertoire, please contact me [williamsummers_at_uwclub_dot_net].

For details of fees and enrolment in the Summer School or details of its other courses - please contact Morley College: 020_dot_7928_dot_8501/enquiries_at_morleycollege_dot_ac_dot_uk
