Evan Christopher DJANGO A LA CREOLE Quartet

Headed up by one of the worlds best Clarinettists - Evan Christopher

Christopher whilst living in Paris, worked diligently to raise awareness about the

musical culture of New Orleans where he lived until the floods, through concerts and

masterclasses. He also formed his own groups, the Jazz Traditions Project and Django à

la Créole. For Django à la Créole, the idea was simple enough: Spice up the Hot Club texture

pioneered by Django Reinhardt by emphasizing hallmarks of New Orleans Jazz including blues,

rhythms of the monde Créole, and collective improvisation. The quartet released the recent

"Django à la Créole" CD in New Orleans during the 25th anniversary of the famous French

Quarter Festival. Elegant and impassioned, New Orleans-based clarinettist Evan Christopher's

style is steeped in the tradition exemplified by early jazz masters such as Sidney Bechet, Jimmie

Noon and Barney Bigard. Together with UK based guitarists David Blenkhorn & Dave Kelbie,

and bassist Sebastien Girardot, the quartet celebrates the music of the legendary Django

Reinhardt and enlivens swing-era classics with fresh interpretations and virtuosic

improvisations. This concert will be a fine blend of Hot Club and Creole just what it says on

the box! not to be missed. We advise booking as early as possible.

Le QuecumBar favourites, they’re hot they swing they tap a truly magical performance

Fine Purveyors of Filthy Swing

World class TOP SHELF JAZZ

A bargain for an off the wall musical experience! Swing Jazz as it used to be: playing it fast and

louche! Delicious echoes of Al Bowlly, The Ink Spots and Fats Waller with a dangerous hint of

Gypsy swing rolled into one hot menagerie of crooning, tap dance, old world suave, rakish

banter and correspondent shoes.  Arthur Foxaque, “The Caustic Crooner” and notorious

dandy, sings with his genuine 30’s crooning voice, flowing like honey through art deco

melodies, creating an atmosphere harking back to prohibition parties and silver screen

romances. As if this is not enough, the band also sports their very own tap dancer and

Charleston flapper, Josephine Shaker: a work of art; an intoxicating modern day fusion

between Ginger Rogers and Josephine Baker! Where else would you rather be, greeting the

coming autumn? ok... if you can't go to Barbados.. Tickets in advance www.wegoottickets.com and www.quecumbar.co.uk £13 door

Famed South African Acoustic Guitarist

TONY COX

‘Put a party together and go have your mind blown to bits (and reconstructed) by a musician who is well on his way to becoming a living legend’ Daily News – 2007

Multiple award-winning acoustic Guitarist TONY COX one of South Africa’s finest. His music tumbles out, hitting your tapping feet with its solid groove, transporting your heart and mind with harmonic unknown journeys. Warm and engaging on and off stage, with stories and anecdotes, that draw you in, forcing you to  listen to un unheard tune that catches you in the solar-plexus with its power and delivery.  His multiple finger-style techniques absorbed from such greats as Leo Kottke and Bert Jansch, have fused into a style all of his own that captures the rigorous precision of classical technique juxtaposing the loose, laid-back delivery of a master at work. Compositions from his youth are charged with African imagery, integral to this unique guitar player’s world perspective.
