THE KITTIWAKES-

"Absolutely wonderful. I cannot recommend highly enough catching them live if you get the chance." - Folk and Roots Online

The Kittiwakes are Kate Denny on vocals and violin, Chris Harrison on accordion and Jill Cumberbatch on violin, mandolin, and guitar. Their debut album ‘Lofoten Calling’ is being released by Midwich Records, and is original music based around the people, landscape, folklore and history of the Lofoten Islands, - an area above the Arctic Circle in Norway. The music is song based, and influenced by traditional British Isles and Norwegian folk music. The band have supported established artists such as Faustus, Kathryn Williams and Tim Van Eyken and are fast developing a following in their own right.

Feedback about The Kittiwakes:
"The Kittiwakes (rissa tridactyla): delicious, intriguing and evocative music, beautifully played and sung by this talented trio. Recommended to twitchers and lovers of folk music alike." - Paul Collier, Leigh Folk Festival

"'Lofoten Calling' is a salty collection of sea-based folk songs, mixing ballads and shanties into a potent and haunting collection. Playing Accordion, mandolin, and violin, all topped off with the drop dead gorgeous voice of Kate Denny, these songs are enchanting and timeless, the breaking surf only an echo away." - Terrascope

+THE DOOMED BIRD OF PROVIDENCE...

Photobucket

The Doomed Bird of Providence are a four piece folk group presently located in London/Colchester. The band perform songs that are grandiose, doom-ridden renderings of stories from early Australian history.
The music draws attention to the more abject, harrowing aspects of this history whilst nodding to the searing drama of Ennio Morricone and the theatricality of Jacques Brel.

+BENEATH THE OAK

Biography: Beneath The Oak started as a jam between Paul Wale and a couple of friends from an old Black Sabbath influenced rock band at the begining of 2007. They played their first gig at the Black Swan in York. Since then Beneath the Oak has played many gigs and has seen a few different incarnations! Now Paul has teamed up with singer-songwriter Aimie J Ryan, and very recently bassist Mark Waters to form the current line up. Beneath The Oak are working hard to make 2009 a very busy year for themselves, and it's already shaping up nicely! They have a new E.P ready to record in the next couple of weeks, and with their gig calendar starting to look like a lot of fun and frolicks, Beneath The Oak are to journey away from the shelter of the trees to wherever the wind may take them. The trio may even pick up one or two stray saplings of The Oak along the way...
