Subject: Harvest Supper, Lewes Saturday Folk Club, 24th. October

Dear Everyone,

This Saturday at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club http://www.lewessaturdayfolkclub.org/
we have our Harvest Supper, and as usual I'm making harvest loaves (which are meant to look rather like wheatsheaves but also manage to look not unlike troll's feet). We'll bring English cheeses, usually Cheddar, Stilton and Lord of the Hundreds, and English apples.

Do come and bring songs and tunes for the season.

Our guest performers are Capstan Full Strength: seven voices in harmony, plus concertinas and melodeon. They will be doing seasonal songs rather than their usual maritime repertoire, and we're in for a good evening as there are some magnificent voices among them.

I inadvertently put the wrong admission charge on this in the Folk Diary - it's £5, not £4, but I hope you'll agree that pound for pound it's very good value.

Tootle pip,

Valmai

Traditional outfit Kate's Kitchen Band bring their English ceilidh to Brighton's Hanover at Halloween - so spooky dress is optional.

Band spokesman Mark Price (mandolin, guitar) said, "We put ourselves firmly at the fun end of the folk spectrum.  We play music to get people dancing and Halloween is about fun and frivolity."

Their musical heritage comes from early English, traditional dance, Morris and Celtic: a foot-tapping mixture of sounds from start to finish.
