Subject: Lewes Saturday Folk Club in November

OCT 31           HALLOWEEN BY FIRELIGHT & CANDLELIGHT       (£3)                 

                        We'll be using the club-room fireplace & lighting candles to add to the atmosphere. Bring songs & tunes to suit. Home-made soul cakes will be served.

                        Glorious singing with deep harmonies, magnificent concertina  (both English and McCann) accompaniment & splendid choice of songs.

NOV 14            VICKI SWAN & JONNY DYER (£6)                         

                         Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer (http://www.smallpiper.co.uk/) are young performers currently taking the  folk world by storm. Both sing. Vicki plays Scottish Smallpipes, Swedish nyckelharpa, flute &  electric double bass; Jonny plays guitar, accordion & low whistle. They play British traditional, Swedish & new music.

                        VICKI SWAN SCOTTISH SMALLPIPES WORKSHOP

                        Vicki has a Royal College of Music degree & is a much-respected, innovative smallpiper. The workshop will cover bellows technique, tuning, correct posture, practice technique, playing together in harmony & a gracenotes surgery. Music will be sent in advance.

NOV 21          TOM & BARBARA BROWN (£5)

Tom & Barbara (http://www.umbermusic.co.uk/tandb/tandbframe.htm) are fine singers firmly rooted in the musical traditions of the West Country, & also folklore experts. Tom plays concertina, melodeon, mandola & guitar.

                        You are invited to bring at least one traditional or modern ballad to sing & talk about: choose your ballad in advance so that you can be sure no-one else will be allowed to nick it. Ballads chosen so far areThe Gaberlunzie Man,The Parson & The Student (modern), Tis My Delight of a Summer's Day, The Laird o' Drum, The Dragon of Wantley (didn't get out last time), The Witch of Berkeley, The Cruel Sister, Barbara Allen, Spirits of George's Bank, Broomfield Hill, Lowlands of Holland, The Tithe Pig, The Flying Cloud.
