GLEANINGS from ArtsJobs

Traditional English Musician or Dancer, Creative Partnerships Hampshire and Testbourne Community School

South East Closes Wednesday 20 January 2010 Paid (£10k-15k pro rata) Part time Artform: dance, music   Contact: Nicci Hewett nicci_dot_hewett_at_btinternet_dot_com

Description

As a Creative Partnerships Hampshire Enquiry School Testbourne is seeking a traditional English musician or dancer to work with 60 pupils in Y7 at several sessions during the second half of the spring term.

Testbourne is based in Whitchurch, Hampshire and this project will engage their Y7 pupils with local history/their own history. The Y7 will be split into three groups (60 children in each), with one group learning about the role of traditional English song and dance in passing on stories from the past and keeping history alive.

We envisage several afternoon sessions for this group - where they will work with practitioner(s) to learn about traditional music/dance and perhaps develop a performance piece which will pass on some of their own history - or they may develop a performance piece which relays some aspect of local history, but already exists - perhaps a re-workiing of an old Hampshire song/dance.

Alternatively the pupils may learn about traditional music and dance and how this is compared to modern song and dance and how it too performs the role of sharing information about life experiences.  The pupils will be helping to design the programme, which is one of the reasons why the project is quite loose at the moment.

We are looking for skilled practitioners who have experience delivering workshops in schools but are also willing to be a little flexible on what the actual details are.

There will eventually be an element of performance - and we hope to record a video diary of the pupil's learning experience too.

If you're interested in getting involved in this project payment per session is £200, to include VAT, travel and expenses. Please contact me to discuss this project ASAP if you are interested.
