Subject: Reminder - Dansez Francais: Bal de Nouvel An, 2nd January 2010

We hope you had a lovely Christmas - this is to invite you to join us, to dance the new year in, this Saturday 2nd January at Patcham Memorial Hall, Brighton, with an optional shared supper (doors open from 6.30, pas de dinde svp!) and then a Bal (8-11), with local and guest musicians, including Mistral from London and a new young Breton duo led by Louise Gillman from Forest Row.

We are also restarting our informal music workshop sessions, at the Good Companions pub, Dyke Road, Brighton, Tuesdays January 12th, February 9th, March 9th and April 13th. Any instrument is welcome, come & learn the tunes for the Bals, and dancers can join in to pick up the steps ready for the Bals à Samedi.

The next Dansez Français Bal à Samedi is also in January, Saturday 30th, with ANGLES - Chris Walshaw, Richard Jones and Cliff Stapleton's new band.

Et encore pour vous, un autre petit cadeau de noel : our March dance workshop guest, Dani Detamaekker from Toulouse, dancing the Fandango

Jan Mulreany & Lizi Storey

BRIGHTON ACOUSTIC SESSION
Monday, January 4
The Lord Nelson, Trafalgar Street, Brighton, BN1 4ED
Barber & Taylor
(with Amy Reed - fiddle)
Kevin & Mark are a perfect musical match, with flawless vocal harmonies underpinned by spellbinding interweaving guitar parts, superb skills as audience communicators, and a repertoire spanning contemporary folk and acoustic blues.
Willows Folk Club
Multi-instrumental album which is supplied by just two guys-a phenomenal achievement...
true to the roots of country music by singing their hearts out about topics they obviously believe so passionately in which is refreshing to say the least.
...the harmonies sound like the greats of harmony and duet singing;  picture Townes Van Zandt and Emmylou Harris or even Johnny Cash and June Carter and you have a fair idea of how these guys sound.
Maverick Magazine
There just isn’t a dud track on the entire album. Highly recommended!
