Seattle country-soul sensation Rachel Harrington is the rising star of Americana, who is keeping the ancient art of the musical storyteller alive. Her Maverick-sponsored 2009 Tour took in over 50 dates, including the whole of the UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Belgium, appearing at arts centres, festivals, folk clubs, house concerts and acoustic music venues.
She was invited to appear live in session both on the Bob Harris Show (her second appearance) and on Mary Ann Kennedy’s BBC Radio 3 programme - World on 3, during which she gave a fascinating interview talking about her early life in a strict Pentecostal family in Oregon & her musical influences, including gospel music & her father’s secret soul record collection, which she would listen to when the family were out at church. Her songs and stories mine a rich seam of American roots and country music which stretches all the way back to the early settlers. From the crossroads of country, folk & bluegrass Rachel is a roots musician in the purest sense whose unique artistry captures the deep link between country and soul.
Both of her albums ‘Bootlegger’s Daughter’ and ‘City of Refuge’ hit the top spots of the Euro-Americana Charts and Starbucks requested three of the 10 tracks from ‘Refuge’ for in-store play throughout the US, supported by national US distribution from Burnside. Compared favourably with Gillian Welch and the young Emmylou, Rachel has made a profound impression with her live performances wherever she has played, and already UK venues are re-booking her only a year later after her last gig.
ROD CLEMENTS
Rachel will be accompanied by the inimitable Rod Clements, solo singer-songwriter, master guitarist, Bert Jansch collaborator and producer, dobro guru and Lindisfarne founder member whose illustrious credentials read like a who’s who of the folk-roots world. His consummately sensitive musicianship and spine-tingling slide guitar will add depth and colour to her timeless material. This was a fresh and exciting collaboration that came together in the final week of her 2009 tour, culminating in an acclaimed headline appearance at Maverick Festival. Their special chemistry will be brought together again in 2010.

“Like tuning into some obscure backwoods American radio station from sepia-tinted days of yore. There is an innocence, a willingness, an awkwardness and an honesty that shines through … her music inhabits that fertile space between folk, bluegrass and country. Four stars!” Irish Times
“A brilliant debut ... already a leading contender for Album of the Year in my opinion!” BOB HARRIS, BBC RADIO
“Rachel's own songs once again inhabit that time-honoured region that's home to her personal and mythical stories from the American West, a brilliantly idiomatic delivery, and a total integrity of purpose.” NETRHYTHMS
