Hi people,
Thanks to all who attended the POGUE TRADERS/RELIG ORAN gig on

whose lively tunes set the mood, followed by two sets of POGUES classics by the
incredible tribute act THE POGUE TRADERS....I thought they played them all, but
apparently they still could have played more, but were held back by
having to finish at 11.... I cant wait until next time-thankyou to Shane Mcgowan
and the rest of the POGUES for writing the songs in the first
place!
Our next gig is very special....I hope to see you all
on WEDS 24TH FEBRUARY for the incredible

'From the first moment
I heard Emily sing, I knew that she was special. She is beautiful and charming,
and with her love of the tradition and her well-chosen songs, she graces the
English folk scene.'
Shirley Collins
Emily Portman is a
singer, writer and concertina player, commended by Shirley Collins, with
a BBC folk award nomination for her work with harmony trio The Devil’s
Interval and frequent airplay on BBC radio. As well as annually touring
with Waterson:Carthy, Emily performs with her band Rubus and
recently appeared at Saddlers Wells and The South Bank Centre with Lauren
McCormick. Emily is fast making waves beyond the folk scene, being featured as a
soloist on the BBC's adaptation of 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' as well as
appearing on alt folk songster’s Alasdair Roberts’ forthcoming album.
Less well known are her original compositions: these visceral visions of a
darker Albion conjure landscapes where mythical sirens collide in urban
backstreets. Inspired by folktales and ballads, Emily weaves harmony-rich
narratives relaying female experience, accompanied by viola player Lucy
Farrell (fresh from touring with The Unthanks) and harpist Rachel
Newton of BBC folk Award Nominees The Shee. BBC Radio 3’s ‘Late
Junction’, and ‘Words & Music’ have already caught wind of Emily’s new
songs, airing her compositions even before their official release. Emily is
currently performing to sell-out crowds in the North East and her debut album
‘The Glamoury’ will be released Spring 2010.

Our debut album 'A Garland of Song' was released on Southern Records in 2008 and
the next is underway. I'm planning an album of my own later this
year..." www.myspace.com/jolepine

for"
Verity Sharp - BBC Radio 3 - Late Junction
Phillip is one of a new breed of English slide guitarists.
Beginning as a bottleneck blues player Phillip has branched out to encorporate a
wide range of musical styles into his playing. He is fast becoming kown as one
of the countries finest lap slide players, his dazzling technique showcases
carefull study of such world slide guitar stlyes as Hindustani slide guitar,
bluegrass dobro amd Hawiian lap steel, deftly combined with a strong grounding
in traditional music of the British Ilses. Phillip is also a fiery harmonica
player, heavily influenced by Sonny Terry he has developed a very distinctive
and crowd pleasing solo style which rarely fails to get people
moving.....
