Subject: Shepway's Art Beat - new information for visual artists

Hi everyone – apologies if this is not relevant to you.

HOARDING PROJECT

I am delighted to announce a new cross-channel hoarding initiative for visual artists.

There have already been three previous phases undertaken by young people of Boulogne and Folkestone to decorate hoarding sites surrounding a town centre development in the heart of Boulogne.

Mr Cuvillier, MP and Mayor of Boulogne, has decided to take the project one step further to include artists from Boulogne and Shepway to improve the street scene of the Place Lumière building development in the town centre.

Submissions

Artists are invited to submit design proposals on the theme of “Cinema” (chosen because of Boulogne’s association with Victor Planchon, who developed what became known as the Blue Label emulsion process for photographic plates used by the Lumière lab for manufacturing celluloid).

Format: A3 designs, specifying the colours that would be used in the work of art; submissions should include a reference number on the reverse of the design – this is to ensure anonymity when being judged by the panel.

Contact info: Please supply an envelope containing the reference number, artist’s name and contact info (email address and/or telephone number).

Submission date: Wednesday 31st March at 12 noon.

Submit to: Amanda Oates at Shepway District Council, Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone CT20 2QY

Successful artists will be notified on the 6th April.

Each chosen artist will be provided with high quality paper (suitable for outdoors), printed by la ville de Boulogne, measuring 1.60mh x 1.40mw which will need to be collected from Shepway District Council. Each artist will also be presented with 100 Euro prize at an award ceremony in Boulogne.

The artworks will be ephemeral with 12 being displayed at any one time for an approximate duration of 4 months. Subject to the amount of successful entries, it is hoped to change the artworks every 4 months. The inauguration event will be towards the end of May and finished artwork will need to be handed in by 21st May.
