NOTICE FOR ALL VISUAL ARTISTS – amateurs and professionals:
Announcing two schemes for art displays in empty shop windows
SHARED WINDOWS
Following on from the launch last year of the ‘Shared Windows’ scheme, I am delighted to announce that there is now a small commissioning fund available. SDC’s Arts Development has been given £5,000 from the allocation given to Shepway District Council by the Department for Communities and Local Government in support of town centres affected by shop closures.
The commission
Local artists, organisations, schools, community groups etc are invited to submit designs for display in empty shop windows. We are looking for stimulating artwork that will enthral onlookers from outside the premises and give our town centres across the district an exciting vibrancy.
The artwork can be two or three dimensional but will only be viewed from outside the premises. Design submissions must include information on how the artwork would be displayed. Proposals cannot incorporate any internal utilities (i.e. must not be reliant on electricity, water etc) and must not be of a commercial nature.
Ten successful applicants will each be awarded a grant of £400 towards the cost of materials.
Depending on the premises available and owner/agent permissions, we are looking to commission art displays for the following areas:
Ø 3 in Folkestone
Ø 2 in Hythe
Ø 5 across the rest of the district
Should there be a shortage of available premises in some areas, these ratios will change.
We are currently compiling a list of empty premises; for further submission information, please email: arts_at_shepway_dot_gov_dot_uk
CREATIVE WINDOWS
Creative Windows in the Creative Quarter!
As there is such a huge number of artists and creative people in the Creative Quarter, Shepway and beyond, the Creative Foundation has set up a ‘Creative Windows’ scheme to allow people to apply and use a window for a month at a time to display their work in either the Old High Street or Tontine Street. The CF wants the windows to be interesting and innovative to brighten the area and animate the spaces!
If you are interested in applying, please email lucy_at_creativefoundation_dot_org_dot_uk for an application pack.
Please don’t forget the deadline above for the April Art Beat e-newsletter!
