Grada are widely regarded as the finest of the younger generation of Irish traditional bands. In their authentic, yet innovative arrangements, all the elements that make great Irish music come together as singer Nicola Joyce is joined by an instrumental line-up bursting with talent and creativity - guitar, fiddle, flute, bodhran & cahon, underpinned by the resonant depth and rhythmic swing of Andrew Laking's stand-up bass.

The band's instrumental sets are second to none for their energy and complex interplay between instruments, while on vocals, Nicola's sings both traditional material and songs with a definite Americana feel. This combination gives a Grada show its own highly distinctive blend of material - as this tour now gives UK audiences a rare chance to experience.

"The most talked about young Irish traditional band in years"

Emily Portman Album Launch - The Glamoury
support from Johnny Kearney and Lucy Farrell
Wednesday 3rd March
The New Empowering Church
1a Westgate Street E8 5RL

£8 , 8 - 11:30pm
tickets

‘The Glamoury’ is the eagerly awaited debut of folk songstress Emily Portman. Folktales and ballads inspire this beguiling vocal-centered album of contemporary songs. These visceral visions of a darker Albion conjure landscapes where mythical sirens collide in urban backstreets. ‘The Glamoury’ weaves together a tapestry of female narratives with harmonies from Lucy Farrell and BBC Folk Award Nominee Rachel Newton. Harp, viola and guitar combine with delicate strings from Northern Sinfonia‘s cellist Gabriel Waite and Bellowhead’s own Rachael McShane.

“From the first moment I heard Emily sing, I knew that she was special. She is beautiful and charming, and with her love of the tradition and her well-chosen songs, she graces the English folk scene.â€ð - Shirley Collins
