Dear All,

For those of you who would really like to celebrate St Gerorge's Day and the joys of being English, as the Scots, Welsh and Irish do with their own national societys, you might like to find out about about the Royal Society of St George,

http://www.royalsocietyofstgeorge.com/index2.htm

The Dover group have a service in Dover Castle on Sunday 25th followed by a lunch at the RCPY on Dover seafront, if anyone would more more details please get back to me.

Subject: LOCTUP TOGETHER AT THE DRUM 15 APR 10 & Fw: St George's Day -23 April

Good evening all,

I have addressed this missive to my groups for both the Drum and Crabble so that Bill Howarth's message about St George's Day gets the widest possible distribution.  I cannot make it unfortunately as I am travelling on a steam special that day behind King Arthur Class loco Sir Lamiel otherwise I would most certainly have been there to support our patron saint's day so I hope that you will find the time to give Bill your support.

Turning to our guest night at The Drum on Thursday, I know that we shall have a great night as we certainly did on the two occasions that Chris and Ian came to The White Hart.  It is somewhat scary to think that that is more than five years ago!!  If you have never seen them or you have not seen them since they last appeared at The White Hart, do come along on Thursday as they are rally great performers with a ready wit and a wide range of songs from the comic through self-penned to traditional and maritime.  They are probably best known on the maritime circuit but that is by no means the only string to their bow.  Do come and give us your support.

The floor spots have all now been taken and there will be a good range of material from the floor spot performers as well as from Chris and Ian so please do come along and lend your support for what will, undoubtedly be a good fun evening.

Dear David

Sorry that I have not made it to the Drum for a few weeks – hope to do better in future!

As you will see from the attachment, the landlord at the Chequer at Ash has asked Mac (who asked me) to do some music for St George’s day.

What sort of music is appropriate for St George’s day?  (the Scots, Irish and Welsh have no difficulty in celebrating their national saints’ days musically).

Anyway, Mac and I (knowing no songs about dragon slaying!) concluded that a selection of traditional English folk songs and tunes would fit the bill and a working on what we hope is suitable stuff for the evening.

It would add greatly to the evening if we could have contributions from some guest/floor singers and have a few people agreed to come along(Adrian O, Driftwood and a couple of other possibles).

I wondered if you would be interested/available to come along and do some songs.  If not, never mind, but if you were able to come along I feel sure that you would be able to come up with something appropriate for the evening.

One final favour – could you circulate the information to any other ‘Drummers’ who might be interested?

Many thanks

Bill.

I leave you with this thought!!

Four worms and a lesson to be learned!!!!

A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.

The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol
Dead

The second worm in cigarette smoke
 - Dead

Third worm in chocolate syrup
 - Dead

Fourth worm in good clean soil
 - Alive.

So the minister asked the congregation,

'What did you learn from this demonstration???'

Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said,

'As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!'

That pretty much ended the service!!!

Best regards

David
