KLEZMER SWINGERS

“the sordid story of old jewish odessa… and old new york

Story teller, Wally Fields on piano takes the audience on a rip roaring roller coaster, helter skelter gallop, from the dives of Jewish Odessa to the speakeasies of New York…and traces the influence of the toe-tapping  Jewish hooligan music of the Odessan waterfront, on “roaring twenties” downtown New York…and into the swing style big band  jazz of Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman. Stewart Curtis Clarinet/sax, Murray Salmon on Bass and Paul Jaysinghe on Trumpet make up the guys. With a backdrop of the comic and brutal Jewish underworld in both cities; the environment is coloured by the presence of Gershwin, Kern , Irving Berlin, Kurt Weill, Sophie Tucker, Al Jolson, Jimmy Durante, Danny Kaye, and Jimmy Cagney...with Dutch Schultz, “Gurrah the Gorilla” Shapiro, and Murder Incorporated lurking  on the horizon. Hold your breath…!!!! www.tophatproductions.co.uk Open at 6 food until 10 your table will be allocated on arrival, diners get preferential seating. Tickets from www.quecumbar.co.uk www.wegottickets.com £12 on the door
