2010’ Hailed by many as one of
That ability has won Peters two
Grammy nominations and sold her millions of records worldwide.  She
also won the Country Music Association Song Of The Year award for
"Independence Day". The title track of her 1996
debut album, The Secret of Life, was recorded by Faith Hill, for whom it
was a Top 5 country hit. The track ‘When You Are Old’ has become a regular
on BBC Radio 2’s playlist (Terry Wogan is a big
fan!). In celebration of her new CD
release "Circus Girl - The Best Of Gretchen Peters", she is embarking on
her first ever all-request tour. This intimate Chequer Mead show
will encompass and highlight her entire body of work and feature the
stories behind the songs, personal anecdotes and glimpses behind the
scenes of her 20+ year career. The set list is composed entirely of
requests by fans via email, Twitter, Facebook and Peters'
      website. “Some singers were
born to perform and Gretchen Peters is definitely one of them…  her
voice arrestingly beautiful, her delivery perfect and the songs divine.”
      HMV
      Magazine “Her songwriting
is better than 99% of writers working in this or any other genre.”
      Americana-uk.com “In
Peters' music every tale is brave, unique, beautiful.”

Mead Support: Mary Hampton £15 (£12.50
      conc)   | Twice-nominated for a
prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize, Eliza Carthy is also the winner of
more than 7 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and a nominee in 3 categories for the
2009 awards (Best Singer, Best Album and Best Orginal Track). She has been
a regular guest-presenter on the BBC Radio 2 Mark Radcliffe Show and has
made several appearances on BBC TV’s Later with Jools. In addition, she
has presented her own four part series on the history of English Folk on
BBC Radio 2 and was recently the subject of the ITV documentary, Heaven
& Earth.  She also featured prominently in the acclaimed BBC Four
Folk Britannia season. A truly inventive and
innovative singer and fiddle-player, Carthy is a gifted musical
conceptualist confirming her position as, arguably, the most impressive
and engaging performer of a generation. Eliza will be accompanied (tbc)
by Willie Molleson on drums, Emma Smith on double bass and Phil Alexander
on keyboards / piano accordion. “Seriously

       £15 (£12.50

Bob Harris and Johnnie Walker are all agreed - Show of Hands are a great
English acoustic band. The band have earned themselves a regard and
reputation based on more than 15 years of finely honed, genre-defying
performances, graduating from back rooms of pubs to the Royal Albert Hall,
(which they’ve sold out three times) and travelling from their native
Devon to Europe, Australia, India, America and
Canada. An alchemist couldn’t have come
up with a more potent, magical mix than that of Phil Beer, who can, as The
Scotsman observed, “play nearly every stringed instrument known to man”
and the inspired Steve Knightley, described by Radio 2’s Mike Harding as
“one of England’s greatest singer songwriters”.
