GYPSY SWING STILL SWINGING LIVE AT

LONDON'S PREMIER GYPSY SWING VENUE

HOME OF LE QUECUMBAR ALLSTARS & LE Q RECORDS

Le QuecumBar International Gypsy Swing Guitar Festival

Le Q Records latest masterpiece and commemorative

Triple CD - LEQ0108

NOW AVAILABLE at our online shop

www.quecumbar.co.uk

A triple cd commemorative pack of recordings set over the nine night sold out festival (a first for London), that includes star soloists appearing on stage together for the first time; all passionate representatives of the essence of Gypsy swing.  This pack captures the energy and passion of 34 exceptional musicians; global Gypsy players from 6 countries who united and gathered in London for one reason only, to play homage to the Gypsy guitar genius Django Reinhardt and to honour his 100th birthday.

200 minutes of sublime live highlights – bonus tracks interviews with Stochelo Rosenberg, Tcha Limberger and Biel Ballester.

Press review by Dave Gelly

The Observer, Sunday 11 July 2010

“…This triple-CD set contains some truly astounding music. The sheer virtuosity often beggars belief, but it's the inventiveness and creative abandon in the playing of such masters of the genre as Lollo Meier and Sébastien Giniaux, and especially the multi-talented Tcha Limberger, that make these performances truly remarkable. I can't say "unbelievable", because I was there when some were recorded – at London's Le QuecumBar, back in January, at the festival to celebrate Django Reinhardt's centenary – and this was exactly how it came across at the time.”

EVENING STANDARD - SIMON BROUGHTON “This was music straight from the soul, played in the perfect setting — one of London’s hidden gems”

JAZZ PREVIEW.COM “This music has deep roots, but in its soulfulness, in the versatility of its imagination and in its sheer exuberance, the ability of Gypsy swing/jazz to charm and seduce audiences remains as powerful as ever. Prepare to be enchanted! “

LONDONNET.CO.UK “the biggest collection of Gypsy Swing talent in the UK ever.”

AUTHENTIC GYPSY SWING DIRECT FROM GERMANY

KUSSIE WEISS QUINTET

They wowed our audiences in January at our International Gypsy Swing Guitar Festival celebrating Django’s 100th Birthday and recorded live on the triple cd!

Elegant arrangements that rejuvenate and add sizzle to the classical Gypsy swing repertoire.  They have played together since childhood and it shows! Combining their unique styles with Latin American and Spanish accents, the musicians honour Django Reinhardt with original arrangements of his music.

Kussi Weiss (German Gypsy and QuecumBar Patron) hails from one of the most renowned Sinti musician families in Germany. Taught by his uncle from the age of 10; Maurice Weiss, and released his first CD at nineteen. He has released numerous recordings and appeared at many international festivals.  An elegant and stylish virtuoso, combining Django’s authentic, acoustic Gypsy swing style with a modern twist.  He captivates and endears his listeners with his shy and unassuming demeanour. Tschabo Franzen (German Gypsy, rhythm guitar) A Sinti Gypsy from Berlin who has played with the international Martin Weiss Ensemble, a powerful and dynamic player. Hugo Richter (German Gypsy, accordion) - Just nineteen years old and musically mature beyond his years.  He plays a mean jazz piano, but brings extraordinarily inventive and subtly detailed accordion and piano style to the group. They are joined by Freddy Wicke: German, vocals, rhythm guitar; David Miles: UK, bass.

DIRECT FROM HOLLAND and top of the Dutch Jazz scene for more than a decade singing swinging HOT GYPSY SWING with  the International

HOT CLUB DE FRANK

Take a king-size bowl of swing. Add a firm shot of Romanian gypsy music and a large spoonful of French Gyspy jazz. Dress it with a pinch of Odessaklezmer and a blob of hot salsa. Stir well, and then you have HOT CLUB DE FRANK; four swinging young guys playing and singing with guitar, violin, clarinet and bass.

The band played three times at the North Sea Jazz Festival and at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Of course, the music of Django Reinhardt has remained one of the musical starting points, but certainly not the only one. The repertoire has grown so much wider. But it is more than that, it’s the way of playing that has grown, the interaction between these master musicians. Come, listen and see it for yourself.
