Subject: [SCoFFnews] Hants songs at Petersfield 18 Sept

A unique concert of our wonderful heritage of Hampshire traditional songs will take place on Saturday 18th September at 8pm:
HAMPSHIRE SONGS CONCERT at Petersfield Community Centre, Love Lane GU31 4BW.
Pitchpole Jack and guests, and Tangle and Anne Winter.

The concert will feature a variety of songs collected from all over Hampshire, but focusing on Petersfield and the surrounding area. Many of the songs were collected by George Gardiner 100 years ago. More recently, Gwilym Davies, of Pitchpole Jack, tape-recorded local singers, so we will also hear some of those songs in their home area again. Among the guests, we should hear a song from a descendant of a local traditional singer, a rare appearance of Paul Marsh of Forest Tracks and step dancing from Simon Harmer. It will be a unique concert featuring a variety of songs from a range of artists.  Pitchpole Jack are a three-piece band who sing and play various instruments including fiddle and melodeon. Tangle are a couple who sing and accompany themselves on guitar and keyboard. Anne Winter has a beautiful voice and sings unaccompanied like the singers of the old days.

Gwilym Davies will be launching his new book A Hampshire Collection at the Concert. It contains words and music to songs he collected locally in Hampshire.

Tickets for the concert are on sale at the One Tree Bookshop, Lavant Street, Petersfield. They will also be sale from 7.30 on the door at the Community Centre: email
bob_askew_at_hotmail_dot_co_dot_uk  if you want to reserve a ticket.
